Hauntings in Whitewater
After the completion of the Erie Canal in the 1800’s droves of Puritan settlers from New England made their way west. A few families settled in the region now known as Whitewater. The land the Puritans moved to belonged to the State of Wisconsin, or a native tribe, depending on who you ask. As the Puritans began to encroach on tribal hunting ground the two parties battled near what is now kettle Moraine State Park until the Puritans, with superior firepower, chased off the tribe. The truth about what happened next has been lost to history, but legends say ghosts of fallen tribesmen terrorized the town for years to come, with most hauntings occurring on Whitewater Creek. Some say their ghosts haunt Whitewater Creek to this day.
