Take a Long Drink at the Bottom of the Root River
A stretch of land, from the baseball diamonds of Kulwicki Park nearly to Forest Home along the Root River Parkway, was the site of many suspicious drownings from the mid-1950s until the late 70s. Too regular to be accidents, were they all the work of a never-identified serial killer, or the result of some mysterious outside force? It’s been decades since the last one, but their chilling effect have left their mark on the haunted woods. When you walk near the river late at night, listen closely and you’ll hear a faint splash from somewhere behind you, then another, nearer, and another, nearer yet. When you turn, they stop, and there’s nothing to see but the slow stream of the placid river. Ignore them, and the last splash will be you.
